Teachable Pricing Increase 2025: Time to Try Kajabi?

Jun 02, 2025

Hello hello! If you've read my blog before or know me, you know that I'm a HUGE proponent of Kajabi. I guess that's obvious, looking at my site, lol. In fact, I've built a lot of my digital business around the platform.

That's because I believe for many reasons that Kajabi is the best, the most cost-effective, and just far superior in every way to other all-in-ones and LMSs (learning management systems).

I believe Kajabi solves a real problem for a lot of entrepreneurs and especially solopreneurs - it simplifies your business, saving you significant time and money.

For the record, I'm also a Teachable affiliate and refer people to it sometimes as well. More on that below - but I've always recommended that if all you need is a way to offer some courses, then Teachable may be enough for you. (Tbh, I'm having second thoughts on that now ...).

When I saw the shocking news this past weekend - that Teachable is changing their pricing yet again - I knew a lot of you would be searching for answers. For instance: How much will my price go up? Do I need to do anything? Will the features change? Will I be grandfathered in at my current pricing? (<< The troubling answer to that last question is NO.)

As I traveled the lenght of the internet on this issue all weekend, I now think the most common theme from Teachable users is: I'm leaving. What's the best alternative for my digital courses business?

I mean, WOWSERS! People are pisssssed!! And rightfully so. I suppose there's still room for Teachable to change their minds but as of this writing, they're holding tough.

Since I've already taken part in some discussions about Teachable's new pricing, read several articles, watched some videos, etc., I decided to share what I found out, and hope this post is a great resource.

I also thought it was probably a good time for some of you to consider this ...

Teachable's Price Hike: Is It Time to Switch to Kajabi?

Hey there, course creators! If you're a Teachable user, big changes are coming your way. Hopefully you've heard the news: They're changing their entire pricing structure, and anecdotally, it's resulting in big monthly price jumps for a lot of users. So I wanted to make sure you were aware.

Teachable has been around for years, and I've never had anything bad to say about them. Well, okay, I may have criticized them back in 2021 when they discontinued their blogging feature.

As you know, I'm also a YUGE fan of blogging ;) I'm so happy Kajabi has a blog we can all enjoy - and make a profit from!

But I didn't hold a grudge, heh. Since then, I've continued referring many people to Teachable as a good option when I think Kajabi is overkill for what they need.

Teachable as the name implies started out as a course platform and though they've added features over the years, selling courses is still primarily what they do.

But with yet another plans and/or pricing shakeup by Teachable (the 3rd one in 5 years, from what I can piece together), I've really begun to wonder why people choose it or stay with it vs using Kajabi, where you'll get more bang for your buck, have more marketing tools to SELL (the main goal we should be focused on), and surprisingly enough, possibly save money.

People think Teachable is "cheaper" but in a lot of ways, it wasn't before - and it certainly is not now.

What Exactly Do You Get With Teachable's Plans vs Kajabi's?

When pricing changes like this happen, or when comparing the price and value of one platform to another, it is VERY easy to get in the weeds. Ideally, we like to compare apples to apples so we can make sound decisions.

But in cases like this, that's a very tall order. In various ways, this post is to help people who 1. want to compare Old Teachable vs New Teachable pricing and features, and 2. want to compare New Teachable with Current Kajabi pricing and features.

To make the plethora of information visually useable and as thorough as possible, I'll be linking off to helpful places on Teachable and Kajabi's sites where they've already done a beautiful job at this. No reason to recreate the wheel, as they say! Right?

So here you go: Take a look and don't forget to come back here for more info ... or just stay here for the CliffsNotes.

- Kajabi's current pricing

Everyone has to make their own determination of what's best for them and their business. Features that are important to me may not matter to you. Price may be my #1 deciding factor whereas you may not care, as long as you get the features you need. Heck, you may not want to do a migration process so NO is your answer, regardless of pricing and features. Like I said, we all differ.

So I'm just sharing where to find the most accurate and helpful info that I came across while researching this post and I know it's the best assistance I can provide to you :)

Teachable's Pricing Shake-up

The links above give you all the detail and answer all the questions you'll ever need about current Kajabi pricing and past/current Teachable pricing. But here are the CliffsNotes:

Teachable's Old Plans, Ending June 2025

  • Retired: Teachable's (3) current plans

Basic ($59/month or $39/month annually) plus 5% transaction fee

Pro ($159/month or $119/month annually)

Pro+ ($249/month or $199/month annually)

Enterprise (Custom pricing; contact Sales)

Note: Once the switchover is made, the old rates will be gone, replaced by the new ones at teachable.com/pricing. So here's a screenshot of Teachable's pricing as of 6-1-25.

Teachable's New Plans, Starting 6-2-25

  • Here are Teachable's (4) new plans (Starter, Builder, Growth, Advanced)

Starter ($39/month or $29/month annually) plus 7.5% transaction fee

Builder ($89/month or $69/month annually)

Growth ($189/month or $139/month annually)

Advanced ($399/month or $309/month annually)

When Do Teachable's Plans Change?

Teachable will be gradually migrating schools to their new plans between June 16 and July 15, 2025.

Your new plan subscription price will take effect on your first renewal, whether monthly or annual, on or after June 29, 2025. This means that you will receive all the features of the new plan on the date of the migration, but you will not pay for the new plan until then.

For more information, see When is my plan changing? at Teachable.com.

What does this mean for existing Teachable users?

What I wondered is if the new pricing structure will cause every customer to experience an increase in price, or just some of them?

Here's what I found by summarizing the numbers from the Teachable site:

First of all, the old Starter account [$29/$39 plus 5% transaction fee] doesn't have a straight-across equivalent now. So if you were on Starter, I assume you bump up to Builder plan ($29/$39 to $59/$89).

But for the other 3 plans, old and new, here are the pricing changes in a nutshell.

  • Basic plan schools will move to the Builder plan [$39/$59 to $59/$89], a $20-30/mo increase, depending if you pay Monthly or Annually PLUS 7.5%??

  • Pro plan schools will move to the Growth plan [$119/$159 to $139/$189], a $20-30/mo increase, depending if you pay Monthly or Annually

  • Pro+ plan schools will move to the Advanced plan [$199/$249 to $309/$399], YIKES a $110-150/mo increase, depending if you pay Monthly or Annually

When you look at the new plans in a vacuum, the increases may sound "small" and may seem reasonable for what you get. But increases of $20, $30, $110, or $150 per month is significant! Wow. And the anecdotal ones being reported in the next section are even higher!

Because it's not just a matter of bumping to the closest new plan; you also have to stay within the limits of your new plan, most of which were cut in half. So to keep the number of courses you already have, you may need to bump up 2 or 3 plans!

What Are Teachable's Customers Saying?

Here are some random example cases and unhappiness I saw out in the wild over the weekend:

With the Pro plan being retired, the replacement tier is $200/year more for half the amount of courses. So our ability to sell is being reduced but we have to pay more for that privilege.

Multiple complaints that their customer service has gone down lately. Going from $249/mo to $399/mo... and for half the courses [there are 100 max Products in the Advanced plan; the old Pro+ had unlimited product creation and 200 published products of each type.

I’ve been paying $1071/year and I just got the email that my plan will be $399/month. [That's a $3717/year increase].

For me, $99 to $309 (annual discounted) [is a] 212% increase.

So over the constant cutbacks. It was $79 a month unlimited courses, then 200, 100, currently 50.

My price hike would be from about $178 per month to $399 per month.

This is the third time in recent years Teachable has done something like this.

[Teachable has] been going downhill for awhile and now my plan is going from $468 to $1,688 when it renews.

... recently received notice from Teachable that my PRO plan is being discontinued and that I am being "upgraded" (ie, charged more) for the GROWTH plan. I think this is a good time to rethink my use of Teachable as a platform. Certainly I will warn others against starting with it.

I think this just made Teachable less affordable. When I add up the cost of things like Kit, plus teachable, etc... Kajabi just started looking more affordable.

They will charge us MORE for LESS features!

If you upgrade to the plan above grow, you will get your Pro features back but at a cost of $199/month!

Really frustrated by half the courses and more money. It honestly has me worried about the company’s viability and if it’s going to tank. That and the storage shift that was communicated two weeks ago. They are making massive shifts that scream trouble to me.

This ain’t a great move for teachable is it?

... for me it goes from $1000/yr to $3100/yr, though I might be able to get by with a lower plan at $1668/yr.

For me it's 212% [increase]. Everyone is different though because they're removing old plans and limits and replacing with new.

For small or emerging creators, this hike feels like a step backward.

Been using them a long, long time and now I can host half the classes for $20 more per month. Time to figure out how to host classes at my own site..... I was on a 50 class plan now can only have 25.

I don’t understand why they would increase the price and also set a cap on the number of products and learners. It’s very bold of them to assume everyone can afford this.

I contacted support to vent and got a boilerplate AI reply about how they're improving things. Been with them for nearly a decade and they'll be losing me as soon as I can figure out how to migrate all my users to something new. Terrible company now.

Not just reduced from ability to have 200 courses to 100 'products', e.g. downloads, not just courses. Thus, you could end up with way less courses. They have also increased the price by 50%.

It's absolutely crazy. Mine went from $179/mo --> $399/mo. Plus, only giving creators 30 days notice?

Do You Think This Was Calculated on Teachable's Part?

In addition to the above comments, I saw a bunch of "I'm leaving" posts, many of them after long tenures with Teachable of 7-10 years.

Many current Teachable customers felt like this was a calculated plan, that Teachable initially gave large allowances of things for a low price, got customers to build and sell a ton of stuff, and then raise their prices while lowering their limits.

So now Teachable has a captive audience who are so invested - and would have a big job to migrate away - that Teachable knows they'll never leave, even if they raise their prices and lower their product limits. I don't know - don't shoot the messenger!! Just sayin' what Teachable's own customers are sayin' 🤷‍♀️

I will say that the main objection I hear to Kajabi is the product limits relative to the price. I've always felt like these other companies offering huge product limits for lower amounts would eventually have to pay the piper.

A company can't keep supporting thousands of customers with up to "unlimited" products per customer and continue making a healthy profit. It's kinda common sense. So again, it's never made sense to me that "I get more products for less" is the main reason for choosing a platform. Teachable has just illustrated why that's a flawed concept.

My thoughts: Is Teachable worth the extra dough?

I've never understood why people with services, coaching, or digital products to sell would choose Teachable over Kajabi. [Like I've said, the only exception would be someone who only EVER wants to sell a few courses and needs nothing else].

Teachable does courses, and very well. But you need to SELL your courses. Teachable doesn't have much of a marketing suite whereas Kajabi goes gangbusters in that area.

So is Teachable worth the extra money (for fewer products) they're now charging? I say it's a clear NO. So if you're a customer, before you decide to renew with them, I'd suggest taking a peek at Kajabi as their #1 best alternative.

Enter Kajabi: The Course Creator's Swiss Army Knife

I've given my Kajabi story, explained how I justified "the extra cost", and shown ways to make money with some of its features.

But TL;DR - Kajabi can run your whole business from one dashboard ...

... and at a price that just gets more and more competitive each time one of it's competitors raise their prices and/or lower their offerings. Like Teachable just did.

One more note about cost: What about transaction fees?

Kajabi themselves charge no extra transaction fees on any plan.

In Teachable's new scheme, the only plan they have for under $50/month is the entry-level Starter plan for $29/$39 ... BUT! And there is a BUT - they charge you a 7.5% transaction fee. It's easy to see how that could easily turn cost-INeffective.

Say you primarily sell a $499 course and have the Teachable Starter plan. Your goal is to sell 10 per month so your gross income is $5K. You hit that goal and YAY!!! Oh wait, Teachable gets to keep $375 of that. So in the end, you paid Teachable over $400 to sell your course that month. At that high cost, you may as well bump up to the Teachable Builder plan and pay $89 monthly with no transaction fee.

Better yet, move to Kajabi's Kickstart plan for $71/$89, no transaction fees, and 1 course, 1 community, 1 other product of your choice. In addition, you get access to all the marketing features you can utilize - included with ALL Kajabi plans - like automations, landing pages, and emails (broadcasts and sequences), which Teachable doesn't have.

Making the Switch: Is Kajabi Right for You?

Pros and cons: Let's keep it real

As we know, in life, there are Pros and Cons to everything. The best we can do is consider what those are for each of us individually, based on what's important to us. I can't tell you that Kajabi will be the best choice for 100% of people. But I can say that, especially now in light of Teachable's pricing restructure, that Kajabi is a strong contender and what I recommend most people use. Kajabi gives you more bang for your buck and as small business owners, that's what we should each be striving for, right?

Who Kajabi is perfect for (and who might want to stick with Teachable)

This one's easy: Teachable may be good for anyone who only needs a place to host a few courses. This person already has all the marketing infrastructure like a website, blog, landing and sales pages, podcast, community, coaching platform, etc. built out somewhere else that they're thrilled with - or they for some reason don't need to market their course (it's a program specifically for a school, for example).

For everyone else: Kajabi is better. It includes all of the above and more in one place, for one price. That gives Kajabi users an easier way to make a living, saving them aggravation, time, and money.

Tips for a smooth transition

Another thing I learned from all my internet research on Teachable's pricing changes is that many people want to leave but a lot of them feel begrudgingly tied to Teachable because the thought of moving allll their courses is overwhelming.

I totally get that. It sounds daunting. It would take a whole 'nother long blog post to give you instructions on how to do that effectively.

But the short version is this:

1. Evaluate your current course offerings - are they all selling? Could you let go of some? Whatever you can eliminate doesn't need to be moved, nor counted against the Product limits of your Kajabi plan.

2. Hire some help. Find a competent, experienced Kajabi VA. They'll be able to migrate your stuff 10x faster than you will because they already know Kajabi like the back of their hand.

If money is tight, have them move 1 course + provide you with Loom videos showing you how to do it. Then you do the rest, as you have time. It helps if you have a simultaneous fun distraction. (I once moved my entire WordPress blog and all its individual posts to Kajabi while watching the World Series, lol ⚾️).

"Sure, Erika, but that'll take me 3 months!" "Yes, Grasshopper, but 3 months will go by whether you get your Teachable to Kajabi migration done or not." Hee hee, hope that helps.
